An Ampleforth education is a “Compass for Life”. We educate the whole person, unlocking what they can contribute to the world and fulfilling their academic potential. Within our welcoming community, rooted in Benedictine values, individuals’ interests and strengths are discovered and nurtured. Set in 2,200 acres of beautiful English countryside, we are a full boarding school with a rich and varied programme of activities every day and at weekends. We offer a wide range of GCSE, A Level, and BTEC subjects and an educational approach that encourages a love of learning and independence of mind.

Our 9 boarding houses – 3 for girls, 5 for boys, and a Junior House for Years 7&8 – are real homes where children form lifelong friendships. Escorted school trains provide easy access from York to London / Edinburgh in under 2 hours – and there is a minibus service for day students. Most families begin the admissions process by visiting Ampleforth to look around, meet students and staff and get a better feel for the College. This is very important and some families visit on several occasions in the lead-up to their children joining.

We can organise visits on any day from Monday to Saturday during term time, subject to availability. During your day you will enjoy a tour of the School with current students, see the boarding houses, meet housemistresses and housemasters and other key members of staff. Depending on your child’s interests, these could include the Director of Music or the Head of Games, for example.  All children meet the Registrar before an offer of a place is made, either in person or through an online platform. We are renowned for our Benedictine hospitality and would be delighted to invite you to join our students for lunch during your visit.

We also offer a number of Open Mornings throughout the year, which include a tour of the College and opportunities to meet staff and students.
