Pennthorpe
"Excellence underpins all that we do at Pennthorpe, and all that we strive to be together."
About Pennthorpe
Pennthorpe is located in Rudgwick, on the border of Surrey and Sussex, set within a beautiful 25-acre site, and was founded by the Braby Brothers in 1930. This IAPS co-educational day school is for children aged 2 to 13. Pennthorpe benefits from an active governing body and boasts a track record of 100% of children securing their preferred senior schools, such as Brighton College and Hurstpierpoint College.
Through our innovative curriculum and co-curriculum we aim to inspire creativity and enable every pupil to experience success. Be it in academic or co-curricular studies, Pennthorpe’s goal is to be a centre of excellence for teaching and pupil outcomes; to develop a reflective, lifelong learning ethic in our pupils, and challenge children of all abilities to achieve. Excellence underpins all that we do at Pennthorpe, and all that we strive to be together. Benefitting from a tight-knit community, each child is treated as an individual and embodies the ‘Pennthorpe Purpose’ with our motto ‘Born not for ourselves alone’ weaved into everything we do.
Offering a wide range of activities and facilities, with the recent unveiling of their new MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) and a dedicated Year 7/8 Common Room; affectionately known as ‘The Attic’, Pennthorpe offers each child an opportunity to find what really makes them tick. Small class sizes average 12 pupils; an excellent atmosphere is palpable under the leadership of Head Chris Murray and his staff.
Pennthorpe prioritises pastoral care, instilling values of respect and tolerance, creating a supportive and happy environment, while actively engaging with parents and the wider community in collaborative efforts.
Head Teacher’s Philosophy
Pennthorpe champions all children; everyone matters and everyone is known. Pennthorpe is a dynamic school built on authentic, personal relationships with a genuine sense of togetherness. Kindness, integrity and generosity are paramount, here. The girls and boys are encouraged to be ‘unforgettably you’, to work hard and embrace the opportunities a school like Pennthorpe provides.
Pennthorpe is pleased to announce the launch of Family Club at Pennthorpe, a free initiative designed for children aged 1 to 3. Open to both the Pennthorpe community and the wider public, these weekly sessions will offer enriching activities led by specialist teachers.
